Unit 6: Predicting your Future

We learned about palm-reading in class this week. I thought it was interesting to see how everyone's hands are so different. Now, I want you to take what you discovered and try using the future expressions we learned in class. Tell me about what kinds of things you saw about your past, present, and future on your palm. Here is a copy of the hand-out if you lost yours.



What are some other methods people use to predict their future?


Runes were stones used by ancient western European groups to predict the future. The symbols on the stones represent the ancient Runic alphabet, which was an alphabet used in places that are now England, France, and Scandinavia. Some people interested in Anglo-Saxon and Nordic traditional culture still use them today - mostly for fun.


Tarot cards can be traced back to 14th century Italy. Many think they originated in Egypt or the Middle East. The each card has different symbols on it to represent life, love, change, and death. Many people still enjoy having tarot card readings for fun.

Although most people don't believe that stones, cards, palms, or cards can predict your destiny, many people still think it's fun to read and learn about what might happen in their futures. What do you think?

Remember to practice definite/indefinite time expressions (page 61) and simple future tenses (page 64). Have fun!

    I am very ineresting in my future. my life line is very straight so i will cautious nature. head line is deep. i will have logical and good memory. heart line is short. i will not interested in love. travel line is crossing line i will danger in travel. i will have first marriage and one child.

    Becka sorry i have misunderstand.I write palm reading.
    I am not believe destiny. It is just luck. My life is made be. And so many predictors predict earth is ruin in 1999, bot not ruin.
    And i have not seen tarot card is correct. Just in movie they are correct not in real world. I think predict is just funny not serious.

    Hi Kwang-bum,

    I agree with you! I don't really believe in cards or stones or palms telling us our futures. I think you are the master of your destiny. I also don't believe in fate. But I DO think things like palm-reading, tarot cards, and stones are fun, anyway.

    sorry to say that Last week I was up late the so absent on Thursday‘s class.

    My life line is very straight means I will cautious nature.my head line is deep,Straight
    and touching the life line means I have logical ,good memory realistic nature,cautious childhood.heart line is short. I will not interested in love.
    It semms that I cann't find my travel line. I have a lot line in my palm. I do not believe in fate.I accept from a child's education is the destiny in their own hands.
    In China people use "the eight trigrams" to predict the future. "the eight trigrams" can be traced back to BC 1046.it has 3,000 years of history and can be very prepared to predict the future in ancient,But as the old era and the war no one knows how to properly use the eight trigrams to predict the future.

    i dont belive fate.like card,runes,palm reading. it is superstition. people are afraid of life in the future.they want to be protected by something. so they will want to know my life's next year or sometime.

    I'd never heard about the "eight trigrams" before - that sounds very interesting! What else can you tell me about that?

    I think learning about these things is fun and interesting. Even if it is not true, it's a good way to remind ourselves that humans can't control everything in the world. This idea consoles me when something shocking and unexpected happens.

    Look this~I'm really astonished to know my future with the palm-reading~It tell me that i'll have 3 marriages~Oh no~And my life line is a diagonal line,it means i'll have a lot df traveling~I like this~My head line is touching the life line,that means i had a cautions childhood~I must to confess it's true~How about my heart line?It's curved upward~So i'm a pleasant,romantic,and warm person~Oh yeh~And this is me~Except the marriages,i like the future of my self ~

    There are many methods people use to predict their future.
    When i was in high school, my club made a "Free tarot cards cafe" at school festival. Despite I wasn't interested of know about my future before that changed.
    Still i don't believe any superstition. But its give a fun and satisfaction from know about predict our future to us.
    Maybe it tells 'You will have some terrible accident at sooner', people who trust this predict might be watch out at dangerous places.
    Predict our future is interesting culture to enjoy even it has any certain foundation of belief.

    I have a short and deep life line in palm reading. That message said i have good vitality. I think this thing is good thing about predict. I believe i am vitaliy may be i will have good health in my life. I think predict can positive thing when they believe good things.

    In my hand,the life line is very long and curved,that means my life is strength,enthusiasm and I will have a strong love life,I like these.My head line touching my life line,that means I have a cautious childhood.My heart line is long and straight,that means I am a respectful,and seeks people of high status.It's very good. In my hand,there have any different shapes and lines,but there have many short and shallow lines.
    I don't care about that,because I only bealive me. In China,there's also have many things to predict peoples future and past,it is a culture,but I don't bealive that.

    Frankly i don't beileve Superstition. But superstition give me pleasure and fun.
    I'm have a short and deep life line. It mean
    good vitality and overcoming health issues in the future. Curiously my head line and heart line is connect.In the future this will bring me happiness.

    My palm reading is this. My life line is very curved. It means strenght, enthusiasm, strong love life. My head line is curved downward. It means creative. My heart line is curved upward. It means pleasant, romantic and warm. My marriage will be one. There is not my travel line.
    I think that my future doesn't predict. If I make my future, my future will be new. So, I think that predicting future is funning. It is not believe,It is math and science rule.

    I believe superstition. so I like read my palm very well. because I think I have lucky lines in my hand. My life line is very curved. so, it means strength, enthusiasm and I will have a strong love life. And my head line is touching life line. That means I have a cautious childhood. and my heart line is curved upward. I am pleasant, romantic, and warm. and I think so. Marriage and children line is one. Like this I will have a one marriage and one children. I hope really happy marriage life.

    Um... I don't believe palm-reading.
    Just I believe luck and myself.
    I think if I believ luck and myself, my future is made.
    So, palm-reading is not made futuer, but belive luck and myself is made futuer.

    I do not believe them. But it was interesting to have.Their past and future meet, but also
    It look to be overcome. Their anxiety about the future, or negative, on the future brings poor results.But the funny thing is sure.

    It is means good vitality, overcoming health issues.
    And i have straight head line in palm reading. It is means realistic nature.
    My heart line is shtort. It is means respectful, seeks people of high status.
    I have not travel line

    I believe, it belongs to the other side.In fact, matches the experience to see a lot of things.Entertainment, riches, the study recognizes that many things were consistent.
    My fate was to exist, it felt like.So much seems to be an interesting one.

    I don`t believe palm reading, rune, and so on because It is not correct that is today`s feeling, future`s my situation ect.
    Just I refer to superstition.
    If I do believe superstition, when My feeling is said bad by taro card, My feeling is really bad actually My feeling is not bad.
    Just Fun superstition.
